I loved living in California, but one thing I missed was Fall. Autumnal leaves, crisp underfoot. Sweaters and boots. Pumpkin carving and backyard marshmallow roasting.
The season inspires me to change the color of the accessories in my house (from summery green and white to burnished reds and brown), bake cookies and plan many outdoor activities like pumpkin patch excursions and hikes in the country. I like brisk Fall days and Halloween is my favorite holiday.
I also find that my instinct to nest is strongest this time of year, probably a left-over genetic preconditioning of my ancestors who had to prepare for long, cold winters in a cave by stocking up on necessities and laying in supplies for indoor work meant to keep them occupied while snow blanketed their world.
I'm sure they would have loved this craft project, featured on Design Sponge. It's adorable, inexpensive, trendy, and easily modified to fit the largest backyard or smallest balcony.
For instructions, read the full article here. Then, poke around if you're like me and have a sudden urge to craft things. There's a lot to love here.
